Herbalife
International:
History & Company
Plan...
Founded
in 1980 by 24 year-old Mark Hughes, Herbalife International is a
multilevel marketing (MLM) company (except in China, where "pyramid"
type business schemes are illegal). They offer products for
nutrition, weight-management, and personal care. A 2008
annual report claims 1.9 million distributors in 72 countries, with
annual sales of 3.8 billion dollars. Mr. Hughes died in 2000
at age 44. Michael O. Johnson joined Herbalife in 2003, and
currently serves as the CEO and Chairman. Apporoximately 80%
of Herbalife's 2008 net sales were generated outside of the United
States.
HERBALIFE
SCAM CONCERN #1 --
PRODUCTS
Many
distributors and consumers rave about Herbalife products, while others
have attributed multiple ill effects to them. Based on products alone,
a Herbalife scam is not apparent. What about the business
opportunity?
HERBALIFE
SCAM CONCERN #2 --
BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY
Herbalife's online
literature states:
"Herbalife's
mission for good nutrition, a healthy, active lifestyle and financial
well-being helps millions of people reach their ideal weight, look and
feel healthier, and earn what they're worth."
A
PROSPECTIVE DISTRIBUTOR ASKS,
"HOW MUCH MONEY WILL I MAKE?"
HONEST
ANSWER:

for the year
97.9%
of ALL "Active

According to
their own mission statement, Herbalife management has determined that
97.9% of it's "Active Sales
Leaders"
(people who chose Herbalife as their home business) are "worth" less
